Points To...

Almost everything in the Old Testament points to Christ Who was to come. This was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth. He, in turn, points us to something else, The Father.
Many people think that Jesus' purpose in coming to earth was to forgive us of sins. If that was all that Jesus did, it would be much more than we deserve. It would make us “non-hell residents”. To be rescued from the fate that the devil is assigned to would be tremendous beyond description. But Jesus did not have that only in mind when He did His work on the cross.
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,...(1 Pet 3:18)
In order for us to come into God's presence, sin had to be removed. A new creature had to be born inside us. Provision had to be made for the physical body. The resurrection body had to be prepared for. Certainly, our sins had to be dealt with but that was not the goal in Christ's mind when He suffered and died as our substitute. His ultimate goal was to bring a people unto the Father, fit for His presence.
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:3)
