Things the Devil Hates

The devil is a being of great wrath. Have you ever known or known of someone who was angry all the time? They must love it or they would not be able to keep up being upset for so many years. You know what their reaction is going to be in every situation. They are entirely predictable. Anger is like a fuel for them. They run on it and they are addicted to anger. They cannot function without it. What is startling is when they become very angry, much more than their normal rage.

I think the devil is filled with hate all the time. However, there seems to be certain things that set him off in a way that most things do not. Here are several things that I think the devil hates with an extreme anger and the reason why he does so.

Appearing of the Lord

This coincides with mass resurrection, the gathering of the saints, war in heaven, and the devil and his angels being thrown out of their ancient habitations to the earth. This changes the meaning of time for him and his rage increases exponentially because he knows that his remaining time is very short (Rev 12:12).

Another reason for the devil's special hatred for the truth of the Appearing of the Lord is that it is a doctrine with a reward attached to it. Look at the doctrine of the Virgin Birth as an example. The fact and reality of it is essential. Without the absolute reality of the Virgin Birth there can be no salvation. However, what if someone is unaware of its importance? I do not know of any consequence for failing to understand the Virgin Birth. Also, I am not aware of any special reward promised to the person that holds onto this doctrine.

It is entirely different with the promise of the Appearing of the Lord. There is a reward promised to the people that hold to, and yearn for, and watch for, and love the Lord's Appearing (2 Tim 4:8). If the devil can be even a little successful in getting God's people to develop a no-care attitude about the Great Appearing, he will have hurt God's heart in a significant way.

Trinity

This one is the cause of indescribable rage. Originally, the devil did not want to destroy God or even hurt Him. He wanted to join the Godhead and be one with God (Isa 14:14), as the Word was (John 1:1-2). Having that desire refused him would be bad enough. It gets worse. God created man, allowed him to fall into ruin, granted salvation to whoever would place trust in Christ, and then Jesus asked the Father that these small, weak humans who would get born again through faith would become one with the Godhead (John 17:21). It gets worse for the devil. Now, the devil is tasked with training his replacements by providing the resistance that Christians need to develop strength (James 4:7). He is beyond insane with rage and it's just starting.

Israel

Jesus has promised to not return to Jerusalem again as King until the leadership and authority of the nation make the official proclamation that Jesus of Nazareth is the Jewish Messiah. There is a blindness upon Israel that prohibits them from recognizing their King. If this blindness continues, Jesus can never and will never come back to claim the earth as His right. The devil wins by default. Just in case this blindness is partial or temporary, the devil wants to destroy the Jews. This would permanently prevent Jesus from ever returning to earth. The god of this world system, the devil, would reign forever.

Israel's recognition of Jesus as King and Messiah would spell the devil's destruction. No wonder he hates the Jews with what seems like an unreasonable rage.

Unknown Tongues

The reason the devil hates this one is very clear. He has no power against this weapon which has been given to the Church. He cannot understand it. He has no idea where his next attack or problem is coming from. Those who pray “in the Spirit” (Jude 20) are strengthening them selves against the schemes of the devil and are receiving supernatural wisdom. They receive strength to resist the devil. At the same time, they unleash offenses against the devil that he is unable to resist. Ephesians 6:18 tells us that praying in the Spirit goes with the amour of God which enables us to stand against the schemes of the devil (v. 11).

We do not want to focus on the devil. That would give him the advantage if our minds are consumed with him. While we do not want to give him improper attention, we do not want to be ignorant of his tricks (2 Cor 2:11). If we notice that our enemy gives particular attention to certain things, we can be sure that these items are important things in our spiritual walk.
